The mountain that loved a bird

"Meanwhile, the roots of the very first seed went deeper and deeper into the heart of the mountain"

I first heard the Mountain and the Bird story many years ago in a storytelling performance by Geeta Ramanujam. This was long before storytelling became as popular as it is today. The story was a remarkable one. Something that has stayed with me ever since.

So, I was amazed to find this book brought out by Tulika in 2006, 'The mountain that loved a bird' by Alice McLerran. First published in 1985, the book has been 'shared in readings, tellings, performances around the world.'

The book has been splendidly illustrated by Stephen Aitken, a biologist. The illustrations reflect the beauty and color of the Himalayan skies over India.

The book is about many things - travel and stability, loss and eternity and most importantly it is about friendships that last beyond a lifetime. The book is an must add to your children's collection.
